Itinerary:
This is an *informal practice session,* not a course. I'd like to get together and practice some rappelling techniques. I'm giving registration priority to people who have just taken the intro to rock, top-rope anchors, and basic mountaineering course this year and want to cement their new skills with some group practice.

Basic stuff to practice:

  • setting up a rappel anchor
  • setting up a prusik backup
  • rapping down
For people who are comfortable with the basics, we can try out some next-level stuff:
  • multipitch rappels
  • building and assessing tree anchors for multipitch rappels in Squamish
  • how to climb back up the rope if you go down past the anchor
Requirements: Previous rappelling instruction or practice.

Review before the session:

  • anchor building
  • rappel technique
  • prusik knot
  • If you want to practice climbing the rappel rope, review rope climbing technique.

Required Items to Bring:
Helmet, harness, belay/rappel device, at least 2 locking carabiners and 2 non- lockers, 2 slings, prusik. No rock shoes needed. We need at least two people to bring ropes and anchor building material.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Meet in the Smoke Bluffs parking lot. If you miss meeting us there, try the Fresh Starts cliff opposite the playground near Neat and Cool.

Notes:
Until two weeks before the event, I'll give priority registration to people who took intro to rock, top-rope anchors, or basic mountaineering this year (email me) and wait-list everyone; then I'll open up registration as first come, first served.
- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in ACC VA events.
