Itinerary:

NOTE: Will be climbing in self-sufficient independent rope teams of two (for the efficiency) - three climbers on one rope won't be permitted.

 

Day 1
Hike in
Set up camp at Motel 66
Practice Climbing Steep Snow skills

Day 2:
Climb Aussie Couloir (snow/~ice up to 50° ), return via tourist route (steep snow, class 4)
Back to camp, pack, go home

 


Required Items to Bring:

Gear for glacier travel and climbing steep snow

Including

  • Ice tool (hammer) on a leash
  • Regular (straight) ice axe on a leash
  • Two short snow pickets with runners attached
  • Crampons
  • Helmet with hedalmp and spare batteries
  • Harness with accessories (two prusiks, recue pulley, ascender, 5 lockers, belay device, nylon cords/slings, etc.)
  • Two-three ice screws
  • 30m 8mm dynamic climbing rope
  • 30m 7mm static (nylon) tag line (for rescue)
  • PLB/SPOT

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $98.50 (calculated at total Km * $0.25, effective Thursday, August 17, 2017). This is based on the current provincial government rate for private vehicle use.  Please pay your share of the cost to the carpool driver.

Notes:
  • We never climb in bad weather nor are we looking for epics: if forecast's P.O.P. (weather.gc.ca) exceeds 30% the trip will be automatically cancelled. This is beyond organizer's control, so short notice cancellations are quite possible and do occur.
  • Be sure to check SPAM folder for important messages regarding this event.

Prerequisites

  • Formal mountaineering training.
  • Must have climbed at least one Alpine Select route.
  • This event can't be your first time to meet the trip leader (you should have climbed together before or have attended one of the Alpine Practices, etc.)
