Itinerary:
  • About essential glacier travel equipment: ropes, snow pickets, ice screws, prusik slings, mechanical ascenders, ice axes / ice tools, leashes, climbing harness, trekking poles, backpack slings, crampons, anchor material.
  • Glacier anchors: snow pickets, snow bollards, ice screws, v-threads. SRENE principle.
  • Roping up for glacier travel: 2 and 3-climbers rope teams. Adapted kiwi coil.
  • Hauling systems 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 - standard rigging with prusik slings / using mechanical ascenders.
  • Crevasse Rescue Response Protocol in a three-person rope team.
  • Crevasse Rescue Response Protocol in a two-person rope team.

Required Items to Bring:

30-70m 8mm half rope (or else)
helmet
harness + belay device (Reverso type)
crampons, snowshoes
regular straight ice axe
carabiners: 5 lockers + 1 large pear shape
anchor material: cords and slings (Nylon, Dyneema, Spectra)
2 5- mm prusiks + 1 short
mechanical ascender (e.g. Tiblock, Ropeman)
two 61-cm snow pickets with runners attached

Notes:
  • We don't practice in bad weather. If forecasted P.O.P. (weat her.gc.ca) exceeds 30% the trip will be automatically cancelled. This is beyond trip organizer's control - short notice cancellations are quite possible and do occur.
  • This is not a course - you must have minimum alpine experience and prior formal training.
  • Be sure to check SPAM folder for important messages regarding this event.

Prerequisites
Formal mountaineering training.
Must have climbed at least one Alpine Select route.

IMPORTANT: You must pass minimum screening requirements above. The trip organizer will use your ACC profile to check courses you have taken and peaks you have climbed. You can also provide additional information in this form (click here): Alpine Experience
