The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 course is designed for the serious and experienced winter backcountry user. This course expands on the theories and principles established at the AST 1+ level course or those who already have a solid understanding of snow avalanche principles. The program incorporates extensive practical field sessions in real avalanche terrain implementing a systematic approach for assessing and evaluating the potential avalanche hazard.

This course will be taught by a CAA certified professional through Extremely Canadian. The course is for ACC members only, at a discounted price of $497.17 + GST. We need a minimum of 6 people to run the course, so sign up as soon as possible!

Register for the course by submitting this form to Extremely Canadian.

The AST2 course consists of one classroom day and 3 days of intensive outdoor field sessions focusing on terrain analysis, snowpack assessment, and rescue skills. The full gear list can be found online here.

Prerequisites: AST1 + Intermediate backcountry skiing or snowboarding ability (i.e., you can confidently ski/ride the equivalent of BLUE runs in the backcountry in a variety of snow conditions).
