Itinerary:

Our popular Intro to Backcountry Skiing(IBS) course is back for 2020. Yes we pack in a lot into the weekend. Expect some challenges and fun in the process. *Important* Please read the course description thoroughly. Selection is through screening not your position on the waitlist.

We will meet on Friday at 7pm where we will start the training with a brief classroom session. We will get up early Saturday morning for a full day outside, which will be followed by another class room session. Sunday will be another full day outside. We plan to be back at the cars around sunset. Please leave time for a celebratory group dinner in Hope before heading home.

Payments

The cost for the course is $195.00. *Important* Do not pay before being accepted after which you will receive payment information. Payment is due on acceptance. Cancelation policy is no refund within 21 days of start of course.
For the payment, e-transfer to treasurer@accvancouver.ca would be preferred. Please put a note referencing to this event and use V0N1G0 as the password for e-transfer

  • Ability to ride blue runs safely under all conditions on the setup you are bringing to the course

    • Attend a evening of ACC Into to Backcountry Skiing Gear and Intro to Companion Rescue for course participants Jan 7, 7-9 pm location MEC
    • Attend a evening of ACC Avalance Awareness for course participants Jan 14, 7-9pm location MEC

    Ski equipment

    • Touring skis (AT or telemark), or split board
    • Transceiver, shovel, probe

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $137.50 (calculated at total Km * $0.25, effective Monday, August 10, 2020). This is based on the current provincial government rate for private vehicle use.  Please pay your share of the cost to the carpool driver.

Notes:
This training will focus on the basic knowledge and skills necessary for travel on skis/split- boards in the backcountry. Topics that will be covered include
  • equipment usage,
  • trip planning,
  • basic navigation,
  • route finding,
  • basic avalanche knowledge,
  • and more ...
Note that this training is not a substitute for proper avalanche training such as AST 1.
- Registration is not complete until you've signed up and, if required, paid in full to the Alpine Club of Canada Vancouver Section, either through PayPal, or sent to the Event Leader.
- When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met.
- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in ACC VA events.
